Summer special train to Rameswaram


MYSORE: Pilgrims and tourists from Mysore visiting Madurai and Rameswaram will have direct connectivity as South Western Railway has announced a summer special train connecting the city with the two prominent places in Tamil Nadu.

The special train between Mysore and Rameswaram via Madurai will be a weekly service and the inaugural run will be on April 5 from Mysore. Train (0689/0690) will leave Mysore every Monday at 7.20 p.m. and reach Rameswaram at 1.30 p.m. the following day. There will be 13 weekly services in April, May and June and en route, the train will stop in Mandya, Maddur, Channapatna, Ramanagara, Kengeri and reach Bangalore at 10.45 p.m.

It will leave Bangalore at 11 p.m. and stop at Bangalore Cantonment, Hosur, Dharmapuri, Omalur, Salem, Erode, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, Manamadurai, Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram and Mandapam before reaching Rameshwaram. In the return direction, the train will leave Rameshwaram every Tuesday at 7 p.m. and reach Mysore at noon the next day.

SWR has also announced a summer special weekly service between Mysore and Chennai to clear the rush. There will be 12 services and the special train will leave Mysore every Wednesday at 7.20 p.m. and reach Chennai Central at 5.15 a.m. the following day. The inaugural run will be on April 14 and the last service on June 30. En-route, weekly special train (0687) will stop in Mandya, Maddur, Channapatna, Ramanagara, Kengeri and reach Bangalore at 10.45 p.m. It will leave Bangalore at 11 p.m. and stop at Bangalore Cantonment, Krishnarajapuram, Whitefield, Bangarpet, Kuppam, Jolarpettai, Katpadi, Arakkonam and Perambur.

In the return direction, train (0688) will leave Chennai Central every Thursday at 7 p.m. and reach Mysore at 7.10 a.m. the following day.
